German Ambassador Michael Klor Berchtold and Minister of Science, Research and Development, Mohammad Farhadi discussed bolstering Iran-Germany scientific, educational and cultural cooperation, at a meeting in Tehran on Sunday.

“Over 6,000 Iranian university students are now studying in Germany,” Farhadi was quoted as saying by IRNA.

The two sides have signed a memorandum of understanding as per which Iranian PhD students will be able to spend their sabbatical in one of Germany’s higher education centers.

The German diplomat for his part said the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) “has created an ideal opportunity to broaden scientific cooperation between the two countries.”

“Iranian scientists working at German higher education centers are regarded as top scientific figures in the world,” he said, voicing support for expansion of Islamic sciences and Iranology in German higher education centers.
