According to figures released by Iran’s Legal Medicine Organization, during the first nine months of the current year (ends March 20), 2,361 people lost their lives due to drug abuse, of whom, 2,103 were men and 258 were women. The figure has increased by 3.8% compared to the same period last year. The provinces of Tehran (569), Fars (194), and Khorasan Razavi (174) had the highest rates of drug abuse deaths during the period, IRNA reported. Prevalence rate of drug abuse is the highest among young adults between the ages 21 and 24.
