Sistan-Baluchestan Province was the worst affected by recent downpours.

In the past eight days, heavy rainfall caused flooding in six eastern and southeastern provinces namely, Sistan-Baluchestan, Hormozgan, Kerman, Fars, South Khorasan, and Khorasan Razavi, said Morteza Salimi, head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, during his visit to the flood-stricken Konarak County in Sistan-Baluchestan Province.

“Around 228 rescue and relief teams provided contingency services to residents in the flood-affected areas in the six provinces,” IRNA quoted him as saying.

Sistan-Baluchestan was the worst affected and 5,000 blankets, 4,000 tents, 2,000 small wick-type oil-cookers, and 16,000 canned food tins were distributed in the province.

Stating that IRCS teams are still continuing relief services in the province as well as in Kerman, Salimi said people in the other four provinces were also affected by the heavy downpours.

During the past week, rainfall of 143 mm, 137, 119 mm, 115 mm, was recorded in Konarak, Chabahar, Nikshahr, and Dalgan counties in Sistan-Baluchistan while the average annual rainfall is 105 mm. “This means the precipitation recorded in the past week was more than the annual rainfall in the province,” said Ali Osat Hashemi, governor of Sistan-Baluchestan.

Additionally, snow and heavy rainfall has caused traffic problems in suburban roads of 11 provinces of Markazi, Kudistan, Kermanshah, Lorestan, Zanjan, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Gilan, Alborz, Khorasan Razavi, Semnan and Tehran. Precipitation will likely continue in many provinces till Monday.
