The State Welfare Organization has set up centers to provide care and rehabilitation services for addicted mothers in five provinces that had “the highest number of female addicts,” SWO head Anoushiravan Mohseni Bandpei told ISNA. Mothers’ addiction affects children more than that of fathers. As per a study on 150 addicted children less than 17 years, about 75% had addicted parents, while 9.3% had addicted mothers, and 3.7% had addicted fathers. The centers aim to curb female addiction that would in turn help reduce addiction among children and young adults. There are around 2 million addicts in the country, 10% of whom are women.
