An earthquake measuring 4.3 degrees on the Richter scale shook Kazeroun in the southern Fars Province early Saturday at 2:28 am. Out of the total 10 injured people, nine with minor injuries were treated on the spot and two hospitalized, IRNA reported. Iran sits astride several major faults, and is prone to frequent earthquakes, many of which have been devastating. The worst in recent times hit Bam in Kerman Province in December 2003, killing 31,000 people - about a quarter of its population - and destroying the city’s ancient mud-built citadel.
