There are 10,000 unidentified old people in the country covered by the State Welfare Organization, said Hossein Nahvinejad, deputy of rehabilitation. Pointing to the shortage in nursing homes for elderly care, he said there are more than 6.5 million people above the age of 60 among the 80 million population, and their number is growing. “However, both private and state-run nursing homes for elderly have a capacity to house only 15,000 people,” he said, IRNA reported. At present, there are 230 nursing homes and over 30% of all old people admitted to nursing homes suffer from Alzheimer’s disease.
