During the past two years, around 1,350 pregnancies have been terminated legally due to severe genetic defects in the fetuses, said Majid Rezazadeh, a senior official at the State Welfare Organization (SWO), on Monday. He stressed the need for premarital counseling to prevent congenital diseases. “Currently, there are 250 genetic counseling centers in the country of which 200 are private and 50 are state-run,” Alef News Agency quoted him as saying.
