The Karaj-Chalus Road will be closed from 9 pm to 5 am from Saturdays till Tuesdays till the end of the current year on March 20, said Colonel Reza Akbari, traffic police chief of Alborz Province. “The closure is due to the wall reinforcement operations of Tunnel No. 5 (Amirkabir),” IRNA quoted him as saying. Tunnel 5 is the longest on the 160 km Chalus Road which connects to the northern Mazandaran Province. It is an important route for Tehranis, a large number of whom drive regularly to the popular tourist attractions of the northern provinces of Iran on weekends and holidays.
