The rate of fire incidents and burn injuries is eight times higher in Iran than the global average, said Dr Mohammad Javad Fatemi, head of the Iranian Burn Patients Support Association. He said many Iranian families have not installed fire extinguishers in their homes and “those who have don’t know how to use them,” Salamat News reported. A working group for fire prevention has been formed at the association to educate the public on precautionary measures to prevent potentially harmful fires. Fire safety and prevention classes will be held in different parts of the country, he said. Last year (ends March), 1,720 people lost their lives due to severe burn injuries, of whom 776 were women and 944 were men.
