The provincial office of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs in Sistan-Baluchistan Province is holding ‘laughter yoga’ courses for patients suffering from multiple sclerosis (MS) to help with their treatment.

“The courses are administered by a non-governmental organization,” said Alireza Kalantari, deputy head of the provincial office, ISNA reported.

Sustained laughter releases endorphins (the body’s natural pain killers and mood modulators), helps boost immune system function, improves breathing, and strengthens trunk muscles, he added. Over the past 1.5 years, about 60 new NGOs were registered in Sistan-Baluchistan. Laughter yoga is a practice involving prolonged voluntary laughter based on the scientific grounds that voluntary laughter provides the same physiological and psychological benefits as spontaneous laughter.
