Over 137,000 single girls in the country are breadwinners for their families, said Habibollah Masoudi-Farid, deputy for social affairs at the State Welfare Organization. “There are more than 2.5 million women heads of household, and 137,500 of them are girls who have never been married,” he said, IRNA reported. Most of the breadwinners are supporting their families because their parents are either not around for some reason, or disabled, or deceased. Of the total number of female heads of household, 180,000 are under the coverage of the SWO.
