More Biotech Drugs

Currently, 20 domestically-produced biotech drugs are available in the local pharmaceutical market, and over the next five years more drugs that are now in the human clinical trial phase, will be available in the market, said Mostafa Qanei, secretary of the Presidential Office of Biotechnology Development. “The entry of the new drugs in the market will boost Iran’s ranking as a top producer of biotech drugs in the Middle East region,” IRNA quoted him as saying. Iranian researchers have been successful in meeting the needs of patients with certain diseases by using biotechnology to produce the drugs they require, he said.
