The plan to equip all classrooms across the country with safe central heating systems which was initially projected to wrap up by March 2017 is now expected to be completed by the end of the next fiscal year in March 2018, according to the head of the Organization for Development, Renovation and Equipping Schools.

“Out of the 211,000 classrooms that had unsafe heating appliances, nearly 75,000 are still unequipped, and only 25,000 will be covered by the end of this year,” Morteza Raeisi told the parliament official news agency ICANA.

Noting that so far about $54 million has been allocated under the plan since 2015, he said there is no problem regarding funds, and it is scheduled to go smoothly over the next 12 months.

From February 1998 to 2012, there were at least seven school fires due to faulty heating systems in Iran that led to the death of four students and severe injures to 63.
