Over the past 15 days, a total of 1.5 tons of illicit drugs were seized in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan, said Border Police Commander General Saeed Komeili.

“During several armed operations over the past two weeks, five automobiles were confiscated, 20 smugglers arrested, and about 1.5 tons of drugs seized by our forces,” he was quoted by ILNA as saying.

The haul included substances such as heroine, morphine, opium, and hash. Currently, 5,000 tons of illegal drugs are produced globally, more than 4,000 tons of which enter the regional and international markets. Over the 2013-2015 period, the government managed to seize more than 20,000 tons of narcotics. In 2015 alone, 620 tons of various types of drugs were seized.
