Proposal to Insure Prisoners

Elham Aminzadeh, special assistant to the president in citizenship rights, said she has been in talks with Labor Minister Ali Rabiei to bring needy prisoners under insurance coverage. “Many of the prisoners are sole breadwinners for their families, but their insurance is cut as soon as they are jailed,” she was quoted by Mehr News Agency as saying. “Having insurance coverage is one of the rights of citizenship, and we are trying to provide around 200,000 inmates with insurance.” According to Aminzadeh, the plan is expected to come into effect in the next couple of months once the financial resources to implement it are determined.
