To ensure that metro employees learn how to respond quickly in case of a fire emergency, “we have asked the Tehran Fire Fighting Department to provide training courses to extinguish B grade fires (4.5 sq m hydrocarbon fires) to selected personnel,” said Mohammad Ahmadi Bafandeh, head of Tehran and Suburban Railway Operation Company. “So far, 350 staff have completed 10,000 hours of training and have received certificates,” ISNA quoted him as saying. Tehran’s underground metro covers 180 km on four operational lines at present and carries more than 3 million passengers a day.
