The estimated useful life or life span of hospitals in the country is around 30-40 years, after which they need to be renovated and retrofitted, said Dr Seyed Javad Haji Mir-Esmaeil, head of Iran University of medical Sciences in Tehran. Citing a recent report released by the World Bank, he said between 50% and 80% of health sector expenditure in developing countries is related to hospital construction, repairs and renovation. “Hospital’s useful life can be extended by using high-quality materials and modern construction methods,” he said quoted by salamatnews.com. He announced that the third specialized congress of Hospital Building and Facility Management will be held from December 18-19 at Tehran’s Razi International Conference Hall.
