The State Welfare Organization has launched a program to house the homeless in Tehran city overnight during the cold seasons. “Under the program night and day shelters to people without homes will be provided,” said Hamidreza Shamsi, deputy for prevention at the SWO provincial office. SWO workers will patrol the streets to identify and send the homeless to the 50 established warm houses, ISNA reported. Early winter conditions have seen temperatures in Tehran drop drastically over the past week, causing snow, blizzards, and heavy showers. Several non-governmental organizations and the Tehran Municipality have also launched similar schemes.
