Currently, the rural population constitutes 29% of the total Iranian population of 80 million. Many experts warn that the figure will further decline to 20% by the year 2050. Tehran, Isfahan and Khorasan Razavi provinces have the highest number of migrants, and Khuzestan, Kermanshah, and West Azerbaijan have the highest rate of migration of people to other cities, salamatnews.com reported. According to official figures, during a five-year period from 2007 to 2011, more than 380,000 people have migrated to Tehran.
