Campaign to Curb Diabetes

A campaign aimed to raise public awareness on diabetes, its causes, and treatment was launched at Tehran’s Friday Prayers by a number of artists and well known artistic figures in the country on the occasion of World Diabetes Day (November 14). Currently, over 400 million people have diabetes in the world, more than 35 million of whom live in the Middle East and North Africa Region. It is estimated that this figure will rise to 72.1 million by 2040 given that 50% of diabetics are not aware of their status. There were over 4.6 million cases of diabetes in Iran in 2015. The campaign dubbed ‘Do You Know Diabetes?’ was initiated by the Avaye Honar record label in cooperation with the Health Ministry’s Social Deputy Office, and distributes information brochures on the disease and offers free blood sugar tests, sepidonline.ir reported.
