Organ transplant for foreign residents in Iran is banned, said the head of the Health Ministry’s Organ Transplant Management Center. “Organ transplants for foreigners are banned from this year (started in March) in order to prevent its commercialization,” Saeed Kazemini told reporters on Thursday at the 22nd Press Exhibition in Tehran. He clarified that it will not hinder health tourism and foreign visitors can undergo other procedures such as common eye surgeries. Last year, over 3,500 organ transplants (excluding cornea transplants which numbers over 5,000) were conducted across the country, IRNA reported.
