The Cell Therapy Group of Iran Breast Cancer Research Center (IBCRC) and the department of Molecular Cell Biology and Immunology of Amsterdam’s VU University in the Netherlands are collaborating in a joint project to test a new way to treat cancer cells. “The memorandum of understanding between the two sides aims to carry out projects focused on cancer cell therapy with the help of dendritic cells,” said director of IBCRC Ramin Sarami Foroushani. The project will be carried out under the supervision of prominent professor of molecular and cellular immunology Teunis Geijtenbeek from the University of Amsterdam’s Faculty of Medicine (AMC-UvA), IRNA reported.

“The immune system plays a major role in fighting tumors and cancer cells but they are not capable of playing their role properly due to various reasons and this is where the dendritic cells can help them to act properly,” Foroushani said. Dendritic cells act as messengers between the innate and the adaptive immune systems.
