Despite the advancements, Iran has a low index in terms of female education and health. “The country has an overall good standing in education and health, but there are still challenges regarding women and girls in remote regions,” said Vice President for Women and Family Affairs Shahindokht Molaverdi at a function in Tehran on Saturday, IRNA reported. Women constitute a larger part of the illiterate population and a considerable number have missed the chance of education for various reasons such as poverty or forced early marriages, she noted. An MoU with the Education Ministry to provide primary education for girls in underprivileged areas is under implementation. Cultural packages for parents to instruct them on the importance of girls’ education have been designed. The plan covers 3% or 2,500 girls in 10 provinces.
