Iranians are some of the least physically active people in the world, and national will is needed to improve lifestyles and boost physical activity and healthy diets. “Endocrine and metabolism disorders are common in the country, because nearly 70% of Iranians are either overweight or obese, 10% are living with diabetes, and 25% have a lifestyle that will give them diabetes in the next 10-15 years,” said deputy health minister Reza Malekzadeh, at the 11th International Congress of Endocrine Disorders. Noting that food consumption in Iran is far from moderate and food wastage is massive, he stressed the necessity to inculcate a culture of healthy eating habits and physical activity. The congress was held November 2-4 at Tehran’s Shahid Beheshti International Convention Center, Borna News Agency reported.
