During the first seven months of the current year (started March 20), 448 drug smugglers working in 40 drug trafficking gangs were arrested and 13,500 kg of illegal drugs were seized, said Commander of Tehran Police Force Brigadier General Hossein Sajedinia, on Tuesday. “In the same period, 8,600 drug dealers were nabbed and 11,385 homeless addicts were rounded up and handed over to rehabilitation centers,” IRNA quoted him as saying. The latest official figures show there are more than 1.6 million addicts in the country.
