During the first seven months of the current year (started March 20), 906,585 births were registered in the country. In 10% of the births, the time-interval between marriage and childbirth was one year or less, said Seifollah Aboutorabi, spokesman of the National Organization for Civil Registration (NOCR), on Monday. The gap between marriage and childbirth varies in the provinces. For instance, in Kohgiluyeh-Boyer Ahmad, West Azarbaijan, Golestan, Kermanshah, Gilan and Khuzestan provinces, 14-16% of women gave birth to their first child during the first year of marriage. “The figure is 7% in Tehran and 6% in the provinces of Isfahan, Khorasan Razavi, Qazvin, Qom, Mazandaran, and Markazi,” IRNA quoted him as saying. Also, during the same period, 449,000 marriages were registered in the country, he added.
