The number of organ donations from mostly brain dead people has increased significantly in the country. Last year that ended in March, 57% of patients with kidney failure received transplants from brain dead donors, said Seyed Mohammad Kazemeyni, head of Organ Transplants Management Center at the Health Ministry. Around 2,500 kidneys, 800 livers, and 105 hearts were transplanted to patients with organ failure in the previous year, he said, Alef News Agency reported. During the same period, about 1,000 bone marrow transplants were conducted to treat patients with life-threatening blood cancers, he added.
