The anti-narcotics police seized more than 900 kg of opium and morphine in a single operation in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan, provincial police chief Brigadier General Hossein Rahimi said on Tuesday. Nearly 875 kg of opium and 27 kg of morphine were seized from the smugglers in the operation, he said IRNA reported. Iran, which shares a 900 km common border with Afghanistan, is often used as the main conduit for smuggling drugs from the neighboring war-ravaged country to markets in Europe and beyond. Despite high economic and human costs, Iran has been actively fighting drug-trafficking over the past three decades.
