Nearly 40% of Iranians suffer from fatty liver disease and if left untreated it can lead to inflammation and cirrhosis of the liver, said Mehran Zamanzadeh, endocrinologist. Symptoms of fatty liver disease include fatigue, weight loss and abdominal pain. While some fat in liver is normal, if it makes up more than 5%-10% of the organ’s weight, it can cause many health complications. He urged people to eat a balanced diet and get regular exercise to prevent fatty liver disease, Alef News Agency reported. According to official figures, 30% of Iranians between the ages 15-64 do not exercise at all while they should at least take a 30-minute brisk walk every day. Routine exercise can prevent liver fat accumulation.
