Iran is placed 106th in the world in terms of the suicide rate, according to the deputy head of the Interior Ministry’s Center for Social Affairs. “Lack of a comprehensive plan to address social ills such as suicide in the national five-year development plans, absence of a responsible authority on the issue, and inadequate resources to redress the situation are among the reasons at the root of this growing concern,” said Reza Mahboobi, ILNA reported. The rate of suicide in Iran is 5.2 people per every 100,000, according to the World Health Organization. Guyana (44.2), North Korea (38.5), South Korea (28.9), Sri Lanka (28.8), and Lithuania (28.2) have the highest suicide rates in the world.
