In an anti-narcotics operation on Wednesday, the Kerman Province police impounded 3.5 tons of narcotics on roads leading to Shahdad city in Kerman County. “The cargo was being transferred in three vehicles that were nabbed following a chase after the drivers ignored police orders to stop,” said the provincial police chief Reza Baniasadi.  One of the smugglers was injured and two others arrested. The drug haul included opium and morphine, Borna News Agency reported. Every year, Tehran launches large-scale operations against the transit through Iran of large quantities of narcotics from neighboring Afghanistan, which accounts for 40% of global seizures.
