A ceremony was held at Tehran’s Nahjolbalaghe Park on Thursday on the eve of the World Day Against Child Labor marked on June 12 annually. It was organized by the non-governmental organization ‘Mehr-o-Mah’ that is active in supporting and empowering women and working children, IRNA reported. According to the World Bank, there are 1.7 million children in forced labor in Iran, and 168 million worldwide. This year, the focus for the international day is on child labor and supply chains, since all supply chains, from agriculture to manufacturing and services to construction, run the risk of the presence of child labor. The day advances the slogan “End Child Labor in Supply Chains, It’s Everyone’s Business!” The message that the world must act now to stop child labor once and for all has been affirmed by the Sustainable Development Goals (2016-2030).
