Over 11,000 families with two or more disabled members supported by the State Welfare Organization will be provided disabled-friendly housing by the middle of this year-2016, said SWO Head Anoushiravan Mohseni Bandpei. “A total of 11,500 families were identified and have signed up last fiscal year (ended March 19),” he told IRNA. Bandpei also noted that funding for providing equipment to the disabled has increased to 1 trillion rials ($29 million) in the current year. “Last year, equipment was distributed in seven provinces, namely Kohkilouyeh-Boyer Ahmad, Ilam, Hormozgan, South Khorasan, Lorestan, Bushehr, and Sistan-Baluchistan. “The housing project is partly funded by the Bonyad Mostazafan (a foundation for the oppressed and disabled founded in 1979 as per a decree by the late Imam Khomeini). According to the latest data 30% of Iranians live in rural areas and 70% are urbanites.
