Two tons of narcotics were seized in the  central province of Isfahan between March 18 and April 2, said Police Commander Abdolreza Aghakhani. “Seizure of narcotics before the contraband passes the provincial borders has increased by 7% compared to the same time last year,” he said, IRNA reported. Iran, which has a 900-kilometer border with Afghanistan, is seen as the main conduit for smuggling drugs from the war-ravaged neighboring country to Europe and beyond. Last December Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Executive Director Yury Fedotov signed an agreement in Vienna to fight the flow of narcotics into Iran from neighboring countries.
