The number of casualties from road accidents in the first week of the New Iranian year (started March 20) reached 230 across the country, the head of Iranian Traffic Police Brigadier General Taqi Mehri said. “The figure is down 7% compared to the same period last year,” ISNA quoted him as saying. Despite issuance of more than 1.5 million driving licenses and registration of more than 1.3 million new vehicles last year, this year “we have seen an overall downward trend in road mishaps,” the general said.
