An Iranian nurse Ramin Kohankhaki, is a recipient of the 2015 Florence Nightingale Medal conferred by the International Committee of the Red Cross.

A registered nurse and head of Operations Coordination in Medical Emergencies at the Iranian Red Crescent Society, Kohankhaki  is an active member of the IRCS in disaster situations and in areas of public health and nursing education, reports Borna News Agency.

The commemorative international medal was instituted in 1912 to be awarded to women distinguished in the nursing field. It is the highest international distinction in nursing and is awarded to nurses or nursing aides for “exceptional courage and devotion to the wounded, sick or disabled or to civilian victims of a conflict or disaster” or “exemplary services or a creative and pioneering spirit in the areas of public health or nursing education.”

This year, 36 outstanding nurses from 18 countries including Kohankhaki, received the medal.
