Russia Sees Iran Role in Syria as Constructive

Russian Foreign Ministry deputy spokesman says Iran’s role in Syria as “constructive”. Iran is a player with a high sense of responsibility in Syria, Artyom Kozhin told reporters in a weekly press briefing on Thursday. According to Russia's TASS News Agency, Kozhin said the tenth meeting of the deputy foreign ministers of the countries acting as guarantors of the Astana process (Russia, Iran and Turkey) on the settlement in Syria will be held in Sochi July 30-31. “The tenth high-level Astana-format international meeting on Syria will be held in Sochi on July 30-31. Deputy foreign ministers from Russia, Iran and Turkey as the guarantor nations of the Astana process will attend to promote the Syrian settlement,” the diplomat said. He noted that the delegations of the Syrian government and the Syrian opposition, observers from the UN and Jordan would take part, adding that an invitation has also been sent to the US.
