Carlos Queiroz officially renewed his contract to coach Iran soccer team for four more years at the Football Academy in Tehran on Tuesday.

The contract, containing several sections not to be publicly revealed, assures the cooperation of Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran with Carlos Queiroz until the end of World Cup 2018.

Thanking the officials “as they trusted him to take control of the national soccer team once more,” Queiroz also expressed his gratitude for the support he received from Iranian football fans as well as the players, the federation official website reported.

He explained that in order for Iran football to see better days, all the clubs and their managers should be united with the national team. He hoped for Iran’s success in the first challenge, being AFC Asian Cup.

As a Portuguese football manager, Queiroz has coached Iran national team for the last three years. A former manager of Real Madrid, he has also been the coach of the Portuguese national team and Alex Ferguson’s assistant manager at English club Manchester United. Under him, three national teams have qualified for the World Cup: South Africa in 2002, Portugal in 2010, and Iran in 2014.
