The Iranian Constitutional Council, well known as the Guardians Council, officially launched its English service on Saturday, ahead of the country’s presidential election on June 18.
The English website was inaugurated during the regular monthly press briefing of the council’s spokesman, Abbasali Kadkhodaei, in Tehran, the council’s website reported.
The website has five main sections, namely News, Multimedia, Members, Legislation and the Constitution, of which the first three are currently active.
The next step is to provide more information and add the remaining tabs to the beta version of the website.
Iran’s next presidential election is scheduled for June 18, 2021, amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Candidates hoping to run in the next elections are to apply in early April for approval. The final list is to be announced by the Guardians Council in early June.
The Guardians Council is a constitutionally mandated 12-member entity in Iran that, among other things, is tasked with ensuring the compatibility of the legislation passed by the parliament with Islamic law and Iran’s Constitution. It is also in charge of vetting all electoral nominees.
