UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura says it is essential that Iran be involved in international efforts aimed at resolving the Syrian crisis. In a meeting with members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, Mr. de Mistura insisted that Iran should be associated with efforts to find a political solution to the issue, according to a press release posted on the website of the European Parliament on Tuesday.
The UN envoy also said, “There is no military solution to the conflict in Syria” adding, “There has to be a political solution reached by the Syrians themselves.” He stressed that everything should be done to halt violence, increase humanitarian aid and spur political dialogue among the Syrians.
