Iran will hold its 2021 presidential election on June 18, the Interior Ministry announced on Monday, as incumbent President Hassan Rouhani’s two four-year terms in office come to an end.
Out of two dates proposed by the Interior Ministry, Iran’s constitutional watchdog, the Guardians Council, agreed on June 18 for the 13th presidential race, the head of the country’s Election Headquarters, Jamal Orf, was quoted as saying by ISNA.
“Candidates seeking to be placed on the ballot should resign from their positions three months before the election date,” Orf said.
The official added that the runoff for last year’s 11th parliamentary election, postponed due to the widespread coronavirus outbreak, is scheduled to be held on Sept. 11. The second round will be held in 11 constituencies across nine provinces and 24 counties.
Iranians can vote in four elections over the next year.
