Iran Records Growth in Euro-4 Gasoline, Diesel Production

Director of supply and distribution at the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company has announced that Euro-4 gasoline and diesel sales have increased by 22% and 6% respectively in the first half of the current fiscal (began in March) compared to the corresponding period last year.

Mojtaba Delbari said Saturday 28 million liters of Euro-4 gasoline a day was sold in the 6-month time. Daily diesel distribution was 9.5 million liters in the same period, ISNA reported.

“Euro-4 diesel is currently sold at 184 filling stations across the country,” Delbari said.

According to the Oil Ministry's website, Euro-4 gasoline and diesel supplied in the country by the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company meets international standards.

NIORDC noted that prior to the production of Euro-4 gasoline, the fuel contained as much as 350 parts per million of sulfur, which has be reduced to 50 ppm and is line with global limits.

Refineries in Arak, Isfahan, Tabriz and Bandar Abbas are manufacturing Euro-4 gasoline that is supplied to megacities such as Tehran, Karaj, Arak, Tabriz, Isfahan and Mashhad.

The company wants to enhance domestically-produced gasoline to curb high levels of air pollution in major  urban areas. Currently over 70 million liters of gasoline is produced inside the country, less than 30 million liters of which complies with the Euro-4 criteria.

Euro-4 diesel output is reported at 28 million liters per day. According to projections, by March 2021 diesel production should reach 105 million liters, of which 70 million liters will comply with Euro-4 standards.

Managing director of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company, Mohammad Reza Mousavikhah, said Thursday the quality of fuel production in refineries in Arak, Isfahan, Tehran and Bandar Abbas is gradually improving.

He hoped that by 2020 “we can distribute Euro-4 gasoline and diesel across the country”.

Referring to the Tabriz Oil Refinery in East Azarbaijan Province, he said it has started producing Euro-5 diesel from early this month and the fuel is supplied to East Azarbaijan, West Azarbaijan, Ardebil and Zanjan provinces.

Tabriz Oil Refinery produces 5.3 million liters of gasoline per day, of which 50% meet Euro-4 standards.

The complex has a production capacity of 2.5-3 million liters of Euro-5 diesel, which will double by March 2019.

Most expansion plans in the complex are aimed at boosting quality and meeting zero-emission environmental standards.
