1.2b Liters of Gasoline Used in Holidays

Gasoline consumption in Iran during the 13-day period marking Norouz (the Iranian New Year) hit a record 1.2 billion liters. Iranians burnt an average of 97.1 million liters of gasoline per day from March 21 to April 2, marking a 13.3% hike compared with the corresponding period of last year, ISNA reported. Every year during this period, gasoline consumption hikes, as the number of travels rises significantly during the Norouz holidays. The highest and lowest consumption rates belong to the two closing days (April 1 and 2) with people burning 110 and 79 million liters respectively. The country's highest gasoline consumption record ever was registered on March 19, when demand rose to 116.4 million liters, indicating a 20-million-liter jump from the day before. According to Mohammad Reza Mousavikhah, a deputy at the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company, gasoline consumption is on the rise due to an increase in automobile production and import.
