Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian left Tehran for Brasilia, Brazil's capital, on Sunday to attend the Eighth World Water Forum, themed 'Sharing Water' scheduled for March 18-23. Leading a delegation of environmental experts, the minister is scheduled to deliver a speech and attend ministerial debates and technical roundtables, in addition to meeting senior officials from participating countries, IRNA reported on Sunday. Organized by the World Water Council, the event is aimed at promoting awareness, building political commitment and triggering action on critical water issues at all levels. It will also look into facilitating the efficient conservation, protection, development, planning, management and use of water in all its dimensions on an environmentally sustainable basis. Water management is a serious challenge facing Iran, as the country is grappling with severe water shortage in the past several years. It has an annual average precipitation of 252 millimeters, which is approximately one -third of the global average.
