Production from South Yaran Oilfield near the Iraqi border that started in November has stabilized at 10,000 barrels per day, the head of the field's development plan at Iran's Petroleum Engineering and Development Company said.
"Drilling operations for six wells at the site have been completed and 10,000 barrels of crude are being extracted per day from Yaran's southern flank," Homayoun Kazemeyni was also quoted as saying by Shana, Oil Ministry's official news portal, on Sunday.
According to Kazemeyni, plans call for increasing the output to as many as 25,000 bpd by March.
"The National Iranian Oil Company intends to unify the northern and southern sections of Yaran Oilfield into one project," he said.
Yaran is one of the several joint fields in the West Karun region, an oil exploration block in Khuzestan Province, with an estimated 65 billion barrels of oil reserves.
The block includes several deposits, including the giant Azadegan and Yadavaran fields.
