Wintershall, Gazprom May Team Up for Iran Market

German oil and gas company Wintershall may join hands with Russia's Gazprom to participate in Iranian energy projects, said Thilo Wieland, a member of Wintershall board responsible for exploration and production in Russia, Libya and South America, Russia Construction reported Thursday. “Our partnership with Gazprom is based on trust, so we are open for possible joint projects. If Iran provides an opportunity, we, of course, will thoroughly consider it,” he said. Wieland described Iran as a country with considerable resources, "and therefore is very interesting to Wintershall." He underlined Iran is part of the company's strategy for targeting key regions, adding that Wintershall has signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Iranian Oil Company to conduct technical surveys on four oilfields in western Iran. Established in 1894, the German giant produces oil and gas in Europe, North Africa, South America, Russia and the Middle East, and has a workforce of more than 2,000 employees worldwide.
