Iran Power Generation, Distribution and Transmission Company (Tavanir) signed two memoranda of understanding on Saturday with South Korean electricity giant Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) on implementing clean development mechanism (cdm) projects as well as launching energy saving systems in Iran. The MoUs were signed in Tehran by Arash Kordi, Tavanir's managing director, and Lyu Hyang-Reol, KEPCO vice president for overseas operations, IRNA reported. "KEPCO will provide Iran with the necessary knowhow to collect and recycle sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) that is a harmful greenhouse gas but an excellent electrical insulator," Kordi said. Pointing to the second agreement, he noted that the Korean giant will implement energy saving systems used in case of power outages during peak demand hours to store electricity. "Should the venture prove successful, it will be extended to hospitals and high rises."
