The Health, Safety and Environment Association of Oil Industry Companies of Iran on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding in Tehran with a British corporation on expanding cooperation in the HSE department.

Based on the agreement, Lloyd’s Register, a global engineering, technical and business services organization, will provide HSEAOIC with advanced HSE services and training programs, Shana reported.

The MoU was concluded in the presence of Hamid Akbari, head of HSEAOIC board of directors and representatives from the UK company.

Highlighting LR's technical expertise to respond to new oil and gas challenges, Akbari said, "The agreement will help state-of-the-art HSE technology transfer to Iran."

The UK-based company operates across many industry sectors, with over 9,000 employees based in 78 countries.

"In light of HSEAOIC's long-term training background, LR has granted the association the license to work as its exclusive representative for the provision of HSE services and holding technical training courses in Iran," Akbari said.

Founded in 2009, HSEAOIC was established by leading Iranian oil, gas and engineering companies, including MAPNA Group, Petropars, Oil Industries Engineering and Construction and Namvaran to enhance domestic HSE services.

  Interest in Iran’s HSE Sector

According to Shahab Tafazoli, a member of the board of the Society of Iranian Petroleum Industries Equipment Manufacturers, a Swedish firm and a Norwegian company have expressed interest in cooperation and investment in the HSE sector of Iran’s oil and gas industry.

“Along with the easing of international sanctions, Sweden’s Firemiks AB and Norway’s Fire Fighting Systems have reached preliminary agreements on producing fire extinguishers and safety equipment for oil, gas and petrochemical complexes,” he said.

The cooperation is aimed at establishing a plant in Iran to produce firefighting equipment for the oil and gas industry.

Firemiks is a producer of a wide range of safety equipment, including detection systems, fire alarms, fire extinguishers and pumps as well as industrial and residential fire protection systems.

The Norwegian firm also produces firefighting units that can deliver up to 70,000 liters of foam or water per minute to stop massive conflagrations.

Iran is hoping to attract billions of dollars to upgrade its aging oil and gas infrastructure following years of hiatus in trade with the outside world that detracted development and investment in the key industry.

The country is taking measures to raise health and safety standards in line with plans to ramp up oil and gas production.
