Iranian Telecoms Minister Discusses ICT Collaboration African Counterparts

The Minister of Information and Communication Technology Mahmoud Vaezi voiced Iran’s readiness to export technical and engineering services related to information and communications technologies to African countries.

Vaezi who was in Geneva for a meeting of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), held talks with several African counterparts on the sidelines of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), Mehr News Agency reported.  

Vaezi noted that Iranian firms active in producing communications equipment are currently exporting to African countries.

Iran is ready to participate in joint projects, research and development, and human resource training with African countries, he told the African delegates.

The minister also held talks with ITU Secretary General Houlin Zhao on Thursday and stressed that Iran was willing to hold specialized ICT courses for students from Asia Pacific countries.

Zhao, for his part, thanked Iran for active and constructive participation in ITU meetings.

He expressed hope that the Iran would be able to play an effective role in the upcoming World Telecommunication Development Conference to be held in Buenos Aires from October 9 to 20.
