The CEO of Telecommunications Company of Iran (TCI) which works alongside Iran’s largest mobile operator, Mobile Communications Company of Iran (MCI), said both companies “have met all their commitments” to provide mobile coverage across the huge road network.

According to the local technology website ICTNA, Rasoul Saraian said TCI has done “a great job in road coverage in recent years” liaising with local mobile operators to increase mobile coverage.

“Each [mobile] operator has taken on some commitment on mobile coverage, and Hamrah Avval has fulfilled its obligations.”

However, he pointed out that some areas need an improvement via developing third and fourth generation of mobile services.

This is while according to users speaking to the Financial Tribune, there are still many suburban areas lacking proper coverage.

MCI is the first and largest mobile operator in Iran. The company is a subsidiary of the TCI and has approximately 18 million contract connections and 47 million pay-as-you-go subscribers.

The veracity of such claims will be determined in summer, when the performance of mobile telecommunication operators will be evaluated by the Research Institute for Information and Communication Technology.

According to Habibollah Asghari, head of the institute, the evaluation would have a great impact on operators’ performance.

Such measures will increase the quality of services, he said.

Asghari added that the evaluation process will start with eight regions in western Iran.
